Mrs. Nancy Newton died in this city Friday the 17th, wife of William H. Newton.
She was born Jan. 29, 1814 in Henry County, this state. She moved to this place with her parents in 1823, and was married to Mr. Newton in July, 1837. She had been for many years a quiet, consistent member of the First Presbyterian Church, and though retiring in disposition greatly enjoyed the services of God’s house, when health permitted her to attend.
For some years she had suffered much physically, yet her death was sudden and unexpected. Her husband at the time of her death was absent on business in Iowa, little anticipating the sad news telegraphed him on Saturday morning.
Mrs. Newton was eminently domestic in all her tastes and habits, moving little in society, and devoting herself lovingly and patiently to the comfort and welfare of her family, and has gone to her rest deeply lamented by her afflicted companion and children, and greatly esteemed by all who knew her well. - s
