Mrs. Josephine Newton, aged fifty five years, relict of James B. Newton, died Sunday about eight o’clock p.m. of peritonitis at her home on East Main Street. The funeral occurred at the residence Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. A. J. Alexander and Dr. E. B. Thomson. Interment was at Oak Hill. Mrs. Newton was a daughter of the late Thomas S. Kelley and had resided in Crawfordsville since 1865. One daughter, Miss Sarah, survives her. She was a lady of rare grace of manner and beauty of character and her memory will ever be a very pleasant one. She was a member of the Center Presbyterian Church and her Christian life was marked by consistency and devotion. In her last illness she maintained consciousness almost to the last and evidenced a Christian faith so bright and cheerful that those about her could but be comforted and strengthened.

Speaking of the death of Mrs. Josephine Newton the Frankfort Times says: “She was married in this city and resided here until after the death of her husband and has a multitude of friends here who will be pained to learn of her death.” -s
