VEEDERSBURG -- Clarence Newman, 73, retired Fountain County farmer, died Tuesday afternoon in San Bernardino, Calif. He suffered a stroke last Wednesday while he and his wife were visiting there with Mrs. Newman's brother, Butler LaBaw. Born March 3, 1885, in Fountain County, Mr. Newman was the son of S. B. and Mary Hildenbrandt Newman. He married Myrtle LaBaw. Active in church and Farm Bureau circles in Fountain County most of his life, Mr. Newman was a member of the Osborn Prairie Christian Church and Fountain County Farm Bureau. He also was a former trustee of the Osborn Prairie Church and a director of the Hub Building Assn. Mr. Newman had lived in Covington the past 12 years. Previously he was a resident of the Veedersburg community. Survivors include the widow; a son, Kenneth Newman of Veedersburg; two daughters, Mrs. Alberta Foge of Rochester, N.Y., and Mrs. Dorothy Armstrong of Chester, Ind.; a brother, Joe Newman of Veedersburg; a sister, Mrs. Volney Furr of Veedersburg, and eight grandchildren. The body will arrive in Danville, Ill., Friday night. Friends may call at the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday in the Osborn Prairie Christian Church, with burial at the cemetery near the church. Rev. Lloyd Cochran will be the officiating minister. --typed by Walt W
