 Mrs.  Martha Newlin, 90, one of the city's oldest residents, died at 10:40 o'clock Wednesday night at her home, 275 Smith street.  She was born at Cumberland Gap, tenn., and moved to Crawfordsville where she lived until 1912 when she came to Lafayette.  Her husband, John Newlin, was fatally injured in a gravel pit cave-in at the south edge of the city in 1918.  Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Maggie Thompson, Durand, Mich., a sister, Mrs. Maggie Clark, and a brother, Joseph Lakes, both of Bloomington.  Friends may call after 6 o'clock Thursday evening at the Templeton funeral home where services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Rev. Peter Heemstra of Hope Chapel officiating; interment, Grandview cemetery. - thanks to Kim
