Newlin - Emerson

Waynetown June 3 - Emerson E. Newlin, 68, one of the best known residents of this community, died at his home in Waynetown Saturday morning at 3. Mr. Newlin had been in declining health the past 5 years but had been seriously ill only for the last two weeks. Mr. Newlin was born on a farm northwest of this place Jan 25, 1865 the son of John W. and Nancy Rivers Newlin. He was married Oct 16, 1901 to Rosetta Sanders. The deceased was a member of the Ingersoll Chapel Christian Church, southwest of Waynetown and of the Odd Fellos Lodge at Hillsboro. Mr. Newlin was reared on the farm on which he was born but after his marriage moved to the Ingersoll neighborhood. In 1908 he moved to Richfield, Kansas where he lived for 10 years, returning to Indiana and taking his residence on a farm near here. He moved to Waynetown 3 years ago. The survivors include the widow, Mrs. Rosetta Newlin; four brothers, Rev. W.H. Newlin of Crawfordsville, Samuel and John Newlin of Indianapolis and George Newlin of Baltimore; two sisters, Mrs. Lenna Saltsgaver of Gessie, and Mrs. May Janeway, who lives on the old Newlin homestead and several nieces and nephews. The funeral services will be Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Waynetown Chrisitan Church. Rev. John Servies, of Crawfordsville, will be in charge of the services. Burial in Waynetown Masonic cemetery. --kbz
