CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (CNS) -- Mrs. Leona Newkirk, 68, of 911 S. Elm, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday (April 12, 1973) at Culver Hospital, where she had been a patient three weeks. Born Sept. 4, 1905, in Fountain County, she was the daughter of Alva and Anna Corey Myers. On June 6, 1925, she was married near Wallance to Millard C. Newkirk, who survives. She graduated from Hillsboro High in 1925. She moved from Fountain and Montgomery counties in 1948 to Crawfordsville. She had been employed at the DeKalb Seed Co. at Crawfordsville for the past 22 years. She was a member of the Prairie Chapel Church south of Hillsboro and was member and past president of the Veterans Foreign Wars Post 1431 at Crawfordsville. Other survivors include, two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Cronkright and Mrs. Betty Cronkright, both of Crawfordsville; a son, Donald; a sister, Mrs. Reba Peffley of Lowell; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant brother and a grandson. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. EST Saturday at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown, with the Rev. Robert Shotts officiating. Burial will be in the Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 2:30 p.m. Friday. – jlr
