Samuel Needham, a former well known resident of this county, died at his home in Scottsburg, Sunday from a complication of diseases. His brothers from this vicinity had been with him much of the time during the past several weeks of his illness. Samuel A. Needham son of Lee P. and Elizabeth Flanningam Needham was born August 19, 1851 in Montgomery County four miles east of Darlington. All his life was spent on the same farm except the last two and one half years during which he lived at Scottsburg, Indiana where his death occurred. He married October 10, 1906 to Edna Bowen and to this union was born on August 3, 1915 a daughter, Edith Eleanor, who was her father' s idol, a little sunbeam to brighten his last days. He also leaves a step son, Glen Bowen to whom he was a kind and loving father. Besides the wife and children he leaves four brothers, Josephus, Sylvester, Arch T. and Obed and one sister, Mrs. Walter Coolman of Crawfordsville. The body was brought to Obed Needham's on Monday Sept 30. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday Oct 2 at 10 a.m. in charge of Rev Wayne Nicely of Linden. A quartet composes of Messrs. Nathan Riley, Ed Rose, Mrs. John Perrin and Miss Pearl Coolman of Thorntown, accompanied by Mrs. Ray Milligan, rendered a beautiful music. The pall bearers were old neighbors of Mr. Needham; Messrs. Frank Caldwell; George Faust; William Bowen; Cal Grimes; Newt Bratton and Tom Jones. He was laid to rest in the K of P Cemetery at Mace. -- kbz
