Naylor - William - CW

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 17 August 1900

Dr. Naylor last Monday received an announcement of the death of his brother, Capt. William A. Naylor, of Ripley County, Mo. Capt. Naylor was a son of Charles B. Naylor, a pioneer resident of Crawfordsville, and resided here from 1836 to 1842. When the war broke out he was living in Mississippi and came north with the last delegation to get through. He enlisted for service and served as a captain in the 18th Indiana battery. He was seventy two (22?) years old, and when a resident here worked on the original building of Wabash College, his father being the contractor. He was one of seven sons, only two of whom survive, Dr. Naylor, of this city, and John E. Naylor, of Lafayette. All the sons alive at the time of the wars were in the service, and all served through the war except Dr. Naylor, who was discharged soon after enlistment by reason of his defective hearing. His father at the age of sixty eight was a member of the home guard. - S

Buried Doniphan Oak Ridge Cemetery, RIpley County, Missouri
Capt. William A. Naylor 15 Sept 1827 (Montgomery County, Indiana but not sure that is correct) - 10 Aug 1900 Doniphan, Ripley County, Missouri - no photo of grave - there is a note that he died of kidney troubles, age 73.  Born Sept 15, 1827 in Salem, Montgomery County, IN (I've never heard of a Salem here but maybe) and died at Crawfordsville, IN - don't think this is correct either according to obit above

Also a note that at age 17 he enlisted in t he Mexican War

Wife: Nancy Althea Watts 1852-1940
One child on findagrave - may be more ?  Mary L. 1875-1961

Note that he enlisted at Lafayette In 11-20-1861 as a 1st Lt and commissioned into the 10th Indiana Light Artillery - mustered out 1-23-1865 and promoted to Capt. 6-3-1863 - that was from Eric Lowman who is very good with the CW soldiers
