Mrs. Mary Catherine Naylor, relict of Judge Isaac Naylor, died on Wednesday night at 6:30 o'clock, at her home on East College street, at the advanced age of 81 years. Mary Catherine Anderson was the daughter of Capt. Robert Anderson, who was a native of Ireland, was a soldier in the revolution and was with Washington at Valley Forge. She was born in Ft. Edwards, N. Y., December 27, 1807, and came to Indiana in 1816. She taught a class in the first Sunday School organized in the State at Indianapolis, when but 16 years of age. On April 29, 1826, she was married to Isaac Naylor, who died April 26, 1873. In 1833, she, with her husband, came to Crawfordsville, where she has since resided. She was the mother of eight daughters, five of whom are living, Mrs. Sarah J. Naylor, Mrs. Mary D. Whiteford, of this city, Mrs. Virginia L. Hay, of Indianapolis, Mrs. Elizabeth Brier, and Mrs. Kate Brier, both of California. The funeral services were held on Friday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. R.J. Cunningham, her pastor, and Rev. E.B. Thomson. The interment was made at Masonic cemetery. Mrs. Naylor during her long life was a member of the Presbyterian church, and the term declared by the psalmist to be the years of a man had been passed when the "dread arrest" was felt. But she had so lived that she did not fear the king of terrors, and although wrung with pain, she met it with the immediate and recognized her whole life. This good woman's task is finished. No more for her the voice of love, the song of gladness, the load of care, the cup of sorrow. - kbz
