Rev. John Ward Northcutt, one of the pioneer preachers of the
County, passed away today noon at his home here after an illness
of several months with a complication of diseases. Rev. Northcutt
was born in Hendricks Co May 7, 1844, and was united in marriage
to Miss Mary Viles on July 9, 1865 who preceded him in death 14
years ago. Twelve children were born to this union, seven of whom
survive, John, Thomas and Frank of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Jessie
Baker of Linnsburg; Mrs. Taylor Ragsdale of Ladoga; Mrs. Mary
Beck of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Archie Crimm of Ellensburg, Wash.
17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren survive. Rev.
Northcutt has spent the past 20 years of his life in this
community. Before his last illness he was pastor of the Christian
Church of Byron and Barnard. Funeral services will be held at the
Christian Church on Thursday, the hour will be announced
