Millard NEWKIRK, 80 of 1101 Elmore St, a life member and past state president of Father's Auxiliary of the Vets of Foreign Wars died at 6:45 p.m. Friday in Culver Hospital. He was a member of the VFS at Crawfordsville, the Crawfordsville Sr. Citizens and Wallace Phanuel Lutheran Church. He retired after working at the Montgomery County & Indiana Highway departments. He had farmed in Fountain County prior to moving to Crawfordsville in 1944. He was born in Warren County on June 10, 1902 a son of George & Loretta Hybarger Newkirk. He was married to Leona Myers on June 6, 1925. She died in 1973. Surviving are a son, Donald, two daughters, Mrs. Barbara E. Cronkright & Mrs. Betty Cronkright; a sister, Mrs. Wandoline Torma; two uncles; 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and grandson. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday in Thomas Funeral Home, Waynetown with Rev. Harry Hybarger officiating. Burial in Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. Millard
Newkirk of Crawfordsville, formerly of Wallace, age 80, died Friday night,
December 31, in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. He was born in Warren
County, June 10, 1902, the son of George and Loretta Hybarger Newkirk. June 6,
1925, he married Leona Myers, who died April 12, 1973.
A retired farmer and
laborer, he attended Wallace High School and had worked for the state and
county highway departments after moving to Crawfordsville in 1944. Newkirk was
a member of Wallace Lutheran Church and Crawfordsville senior Citizens. He was
also a life member and past state commander of the Father’s Auxiliary of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1431.
Survivors include
two daughters, Barbara Conkright and Betty Jane Conkright, both of
Crawfordsville; a son, Donald of Crawfordsville; a sister, Wandaline Torma of
Tampa, Florida; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral services
were held Tuesday afternoon at Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. Harry
Hybarger officiating. Burial was in Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. – thanks to S
