LAFAYETTE – Max M. Myers, 38, of 1505 Teal Rd., died Saturday afternoon at his home here. City police said Myers died of a self-inflicted gun wound and that he was reported to have been despondent over failing health. Myers, a conductor for the Monon Railroad, was seriously injured last February in a railroad mishap. He was born May 12, 1922, at Monon, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Worley Myers. He was married in 1946 to the former Elizabeth Finch of Lafayette. He moved here from Crawfordsville in 1946. Mr. Myers was a veteran of World War II. He was in the service five and one-half years, serving with the Eighth Air Force in England three years. He was a 1940 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and was a member of the First Methodist Church of Crawfordsville and Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen Union. Survivors include his wife; his parents, of Rt. 6, Crawfordsville; a son, Michael at home; two daughters, Sandra and Christine, both at home; and a brother, Jerry Myers of Rt. 6, Crawfordsville; three nephews and two nices. He was preceded in death by a brother, Montie B. Myers, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1943. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. (EST) Tuesday at Zahn and Schneider Funeral Home here with Rev. Hilton Whitaker pastor of the Crawfordsville First Methodist Church, in charge. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Crawfordsville. Byron Cox American Legion Post of Crawfordsville will conduct graveside rites 3:15. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home here after 2 p.m. Monday. – jlr
