Corporal Babe Myers was killed in action in France October 7, according to word received Monday by Mrs. Walter Armantrout, his sister. Corporal Myers was formerly employed in the shoe department of the Louis Bischof Store. Mr. Myers was was born in Crawfordsville July 27, 1888, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Myers. His father, "Hans," Myers died 10 years ago, his mother died six years ago. He went to Indianapolis in 1910 and worked there until 1914, when he went out west. When war was declared upon Germany by the US in April 1917, he enlisted in North Dakota, where he was then working. He was first stationed at Camp Green, SC and was later transferred to Camp Mills, NY where he remained until he sailed for overseas service in December 1917. He was transferred to Co B, 18th Infantry of Pershing's Army immediately after landing in Europe. He was promoted to corporal last July. He was a brother of R.E. Myers in the same company with him in France but no word has been received from this brother. Corporal Myers was among the first of the American troops who entered the first line trenches. He was through all of the fierce fighting of the war in which the Americans participated. He was among those boys who offered the supreme sacrifice to their country near the close of the war and after they had done their share in winning a triumphant victory for the allied forces. Corporal Myers was well known in this vicinity and leaves many friends here who will mourn his death. He was a boy with a good disposition and all who knew him liked him. Besides his brother in the service, he is survived by two brother, Ivan C. Myers of Des Moines, Iowa, and J. Otis Myers of Indianapolis. Four sisters, Mrs. Harry A. Wilson, Portland, Ore; Mrs. Sidney Smaltz, Oakland, Cal; Mrs. George Rubush, Denison, Ohio; and Mrs. Walter Armantrout, of this city, also survive.   -- kbz
