LINDEN – Herbert L. Murphy, 75, a native of Linden, died at 4:55 p.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. He was the founder of the Murphy-Hahn Funeral Home at Lafayette and had operated the business since 1931. Mr. Murphy was a graduate of Cincinnati School of Embalming and he had attended Wabash College. He was a member of the Catholic church and had attended St. Marys Cathedral at Lafayette. He was a member of American Legion Post 11, Elks Lodge 143 where he was past exalted ruler, Eagles Lodge 347, 40 & 8 and was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he had been past grand knight. He was born Nov. 11, 1898, a son of Timothy B. and Mary C. Owen Murphy. He was married to Mary C. Meahl at Cincinnati on June 26, 1930. She died in 1968. Survivors include a brother, Fred S. of Granada Hills, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary’s Cathedral at Lafayette with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Fred Pottoff officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Crawfordsville. Elks memorial services will be held at 7:30 o’clock tonight and a rosary will be said at 8 o’clock tonight in the Murphy-Hahn Funeral Home at Lafayette. Friends may call at the funeral home. American Legion Post 11 will conduct military graveside rites. – jlr
