Columbia City - Mrs. Hazel Pitman Munns, 63, superintendent of music of the Columbia City Public Schools died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Mrs. Munns devoted 36 years of her life as a teacher and administer in Columbia City. She began her teaching career in 1933 in Veedersburg and in 1936 moved to Columbia City. Mrs. Munns was born in Hillsboro Oct 12, 1899. Her parents were Finis M. and Gertie Ellis Pittman. She was married in Columbia City in 1935 to Merrell Munns. She was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist Church. Mrs. Munns received her education at the Chicago Music College and American Conservatory of Music. She also attended several sessions of the Fred Waring Music Workshops at Delaware Gape, PA. She was a member of Tri-Kappa Sorority. Survivors include the husband, a brother, Glenn Pitman, Hillsboro, and two nieces, Mrs. William Truce and Mrs. Leland Owens, both of Lafayette. Rites will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the new Columbia City High School. Prior to services the body will lie in state in the school auditorium. Friends may call beginning Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home in Columbia City.
