Army Pfc. David L. Mullen, 20, was killed Friday morning in a Jeep accident at Camp Roberts, Calif., where he was on Military Police duty. He had been in the Army about one year. Pf. Mullen was an expert marksman and had received a citation for bravery on the range when he threw a live grenade to save a fellow soldier. He was employed at Raybestos-Manhattan before joining the Army. He was born March 4, 1948, a son of Rufus and Helen J. (Lewis) Mullen of Rt. 2, Darlington. Surviving along with the parents are three brothers, Robert W., John E., and Donald L. all of Darlington; a sister, Janet Sue at home; two aunts, Mrs. Harold Wills of Thorntown and Mrs. Gladys Stevenson of Linden; two uncles, Cecil Mullen of Anderson and Orvill Lewis of Darlington; five nieces and four nephews. Darlington-Funeral services for Army Pfc. David L. MULLEN, 20, Darlington, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bright Funeral Home at Darlington. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery with graveside rites by the Darlington American Legion. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday. Pfc. Mullen was fatally injured last Friday in a jeep accident at Camp Roberts, Calif., where he was stationed. He was employed by Raybestos-Manhattan, Inc. at Crawfordsville prior to entering the service. In addition to those survivors listed in a previous story is the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mae Lewis of Darlington. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Mullen of Rt. 2, Darlington.
