Murphy - Thomas

Thomas Murphy, a well known Irishman, who has been in the employ of Thomas Slattery for the past 15 years, was discovered dead at the bottom of the stairway back of the St. Charles saloon, on Sun. morning. The deceased was addicted to drink and was on the street in an intoxicated condition the evening before. It is supposed that he had accidentally fallen down the stairway and killed himself. He was bur. in Calvary Cemetery on Sunday evening, but through not being an affiliating Catholic the use of consecrated ground was denied for the purpose.
