Lafayette Courier: A sudden and shocking death disturbed the city this morning, casting gloom over the First Presbyterian Church, the beloved wife of its pastor succumbing to the assault of the grim harvester. Mrs. S. A. Mowers died very suddenly this morning, shortly after 7 o’clock, her death coming like a thunderbolt into the midst of the family home.  For several years she has been afflicted with heart trouble of an alveolar character. Her friends felt alarmed over her condition but no one suspected that death would come so suddenly as it came this morning.

This morning Mr. Mowers had arisen and gone to another part of the house, leaving Mrs. Mowers asleep. Shortly afterwards her young daughter, Birdie, saw her mother standing in the corner of the bedroom, stooping slightly, as if experiencing one of the recurring hemorrhages. The child called to her father, who responded at once. It was the last attack. The heart had refused to act for the last time, and the gushing blood told the end of the story of life. Mrs. Mowers was dead in a very few minutes. -s
