James Edgar Mount passed away Thursday night June 23rd at his father’s farm near Beckville. He was the son of Elijah and Sophia Mount. Two brothers are living, WB Mount of Greenfield and Finley P. of Chicago also one daughter, Marie who is dean of the Home Ec school of the University of Maryland, his parents, and one brother, Mark having died several years ago. Ed, as he was generally known was 69 years of age and for the past year has been in declining health. As he reached the age of maturity he left the farm and was engaged in the hardware business a few years and then accepted a very responsible position as salesman for one of the leading implement dealers of the centra states but after the death of his father, the admonition of his mother persuaded him to return to the farm and for the past 16 years he has proved his ability as a successful farmer and stock raiser. While parental influence and training no doubt added largely to his rare ability (for Elijah Mount was considered one of the best and most sensible men Montgomery County ever produced) and the public saw in this son the attributes of a worthy leader; not only for his sensible and sane ideas but as a debater and public speaker and the success that seemed to crown his undertakings. For the past 15 or 16 years Ed has been a useful and helpful citizen of the county, never afraid to express his opinion on any subject for he was honest and conscientious in his convictions. Self was not considered an important factor in his dealings but rather his interests were more for the good of the community. A big-hearted, broad-minded man and he will be greatly missed throughout his neighborhood and Montgomery County.
