Mosier - "Madame"

Yesterday morning the notorious Madame Mosier of the north end took about a heaping teaspoonful of the pure sulphate of morphine and proceeded to go off the handle. After remaining in a stupid state about six hours, she was discovered by one of her women and Dr. Chambers was summoned. After seven hours hard labor she was somewhat revived and today there were hopes of her recover, although the dose taken was enough to kill six people. This afternoon, however, she grew rose and died about 2 o’clock. As she never recovered sufficiently to converse it is not known whether or not it was a suicide.

The Journal was informed yesterday afternoon that Madame Mosier had died suddenly at 2 o’clock. So indeed her attendants thought, she having relapsed into a comatose state, but Dr. Chambers being summoned discovered signs of life and after another long working she was again revived and today bids fair to intimately recover. As she is not yet able to converse, it is not known whether the poison was taken with a suicidal intent or not.
