Wednesday morning the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Morrow, living on East College Street, was playing around the floor with a whisk broom. During the temporary absence of Mrs. Morrow the little girl thrust the broom into an open damper on the stove, igniting it and setting fire to her clothing. Mrs. Morrow hurriedly caught the child up and took it to the kitchen, where she poured a bucket of water over it, but the little one was very severely burned about the face and hips and Mrs. Morrow herself was badly burned about the wrists and waist. Dr. Hutchings was summoned and did everything possible for the child, but she died about 4 o’clock in the evening, after suffering terribly from the burns.
The funeral occurred on Thursday at 1:30 at the home conducted by Rev. A. L. Crim, of the Christian Church. Interment was at Liberty Cemetery, eight miles northwest of this city. -s
