Sylvester C. Morris, one of the best known and most highly respected citizen of the county died at his home near this city Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock after having been in failing health for the past five years. A week ago Sunday he suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never regained consciousness. Mr. Morris was born in Delaware county, northwest of Muncie, August 13, 1848. He was the son of Owen D. and Nancy Corey Morris of Piqua, Ohio. At the age of seven years the family moved to Montgomery county and located on a farm in the northeast of Crawfordsville. At the age of twenty-four years he was united in marriage with Catherine D. Cochran, the daughter of John Harvey and Diana Moorehouse Cochran on December 12, 1872. To this union were born two children, Flora C, now the wife of A. Wilbert Breaks and Lew Wallace, who died when a little boy. Mrs. Morris passed away on November16, 1903. After her death , he was united in marriage with Lydia J. Clore of Wallace on April 25, 1906. He was united with the Newlight Christian church in his boyhood. After his marriage he moved his membership to the Newlight Christian church in Linden. After his second marriage he transferred his membership to the Disciple church at Young's Chapel where he served as deacon as long as his health permitted. He was one of a family of ten children. He leaves to mourn his departure, a loving wife and daughter, two granddaughters, Mrs. Scudder of Windfall, Ind., and Mrs. Miles E. Marsh Jr. of Wheeling W. Va., and grandson Harvey M. Breaks of Long Beach, Calif.; two great granddaughters, one great grandson, three sisters, Mrs. J. Frank Buchanan, Mrs. F. A. Smith and Mrs. Charles O. Tribbett, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Young's Chapel and were in charge of Rev. Ora McDaniel pastor of the Disciples of Christ Church at Young's Chapel. Interment was made at Oak Hill cemetery. Mrs. Harry C. Morrison sang "Face to Face." The pallbearers were Morris C. Smith, Bert Sowers, Charles Williamson, Garfield Beach, Morris E. Cochran and Albert Tribbett, nephews of the deceased. Those who carried the beautiful floral offerings were Miss Nellie Smith, Mrs. Dell Cochran, Mrs. Charles Williamson, Mrs. Ed Williamson, Mrs. Garfield Beach, Mrs. Bert Sowers, Mrs. Oral Perkins, and Mrs. Harold Vannice.
