It seems that a Christmas holiday season cannot pass without a tragedy affecting Waveland people. Glenn Leon Morgan was instantly killed on Thursday night last when the truck he was driving collided with one he was following just north of Otterbein on Road 52. He had been working for Mrs. Martha E. Cowan of Crawfordsville driving a truck for the past 4 years. But as her trucks were not running on the holiday he took an extra job of driving a Jasper & Chicago truck. The truck ahead coming to a narrow bridge stopped without warning to allow another truck to come through. While the wreckage was being cleared away, which took several hours, the brother of the dead boy, Paul Morgan came by and recognized the body. Glenn was born in Waveland January 27, 1914 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Morgan. He graduated from the high school and taking an active part in athletics. With his brother Paul, they were known as Mutt and Jeff. He was noted for his kindness and courtesy. Local Resident Killed in Crash near Otterbein -- Returning to this city from a trip to Chicago, Glenn Leon Morgan, 26, local truck driver, was killed instantly at midnight Thursday night when the truck he was dirving rammed into the rear of another truck that stopped suddenly in front of him just north of Otterbein on US highway 52. Morgan was driving a Jasper & Chicago truck at the time of the accident. He had been employed by Martha E. Cowan, local trucking contractor, for four years, but due to the fact that Mrs. Cowan was not operating her trucks on the holiday, he had taken a job making the run to chicago and back for the J&C firm. He was running on schedule at the time of the accident. His truck rammed into the rear of the other one with such force that his body was almost cut in two and it required several hours to extricate him from the wreckage. While the work of taking the body out of the wreck was still in progress, a brother, Paul, also driving a truck, drove up and found that it was his relative who had been killed. According to local persons who went to the scene of the mishap, the accidnet occurred at the entrance to a large steel bridge. The truck morgan was trailing stopped suddenly, apparently due to the approach of another truck from the south. Morgan was a brother of Mrs. Ruth Joiner, local welfare department worker, who was kinaped by three felons attempting to escape when she made a visit to the Michigan City state prison more than a year ago. The accident victim was born Jan 27, 1914, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Morgan. He was graduated from Wavleand HS where he was prominent as a basketball player. He was married Nov 8, 1934 to Miss Hazel Collins of this city, who survives. Six nieces and nephews also survive.
