Covington – Leland L. “Dinty” Moore, a former state representative and member of the advisory board of the Elston Bank at Waynetown died Sunday at the Medical Center Hospital at Punta Gorda, Fla. Mr. Moore, 78 was at his winter home in Florida with his wife, the former Jessie Fay Bonnett at the time of his death. A Covington resident most of his life, Mr. Moore served Vermillion County to a State Representative from 1938-1940. He was a director of the Waynetown State Bank until it was purchased by Elston Bank. At that time he was named to the advisory board of the bank.

Mr. Moore was a retail grain dealer, operating elevators in Covington, Foster, Rileysburg, Perrysville, Cayuga, Newport, Waynetown and Talono, Ill. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in WWI.

He was born April 6, 1900, near Waynetown, a son of Walter M and Bertha (Petro) Moore. He and his wife were married Nov 11, 1936. He was a graduate of Covington HS and attended the University of Illinois He also attended a business college in Champaign. He was a member of Fountain Lodge 60 F&AM, Covington; a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Danville Ill; the last charter member of the Fulton Banta Post 291 of the American Legion; the Fountain County Old Guard 2395 VFW; and a member and quartermaster of the Veterans of WWI Barrack 1995. He also was a member of the Charlotte City (Florida) Lodge 2153 BPOE; the Punta Garda Isles Yacht and Racquet Club and the Civic Association of Punta Garda Isles. He held membership in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 538 in Danville, Ill and a former member of the Indiana Grain Dealers Association.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Harland E. Moore of Punta Garda and several grandchildren. Services are Friday at 2 p.m. at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Graveside military services will be conducted by officials of the American Legion and VFW. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday. Short services will be conducted for Mr. Moore Tuesday at the Kay-Ponter Funeral Home, Punta Garda. - kbz
