Moore - Columbus

Fort Wayne Evening Post - 4 February 1896 p 4

Indianapolis, Feb. 4 - A dispatch from Chicago, referring to the alleged mysterious burial of Dr. Moore at Waveland, Ind., says: Dr. Moore's death was not suspicious in any degree. The physicians who attended him during his illness and at the time of his death, the undertaker, the numerous friends of the deceased, all assert that death was due to tuberculosis. Death occurred at 9 o'clock Saturday evening, and the body was taken to Waveland, Ind., for burial Monday morning. Zella, Dr. Moore's daughter, accompanied the remains to Waveland and she avers that the casket was opened at the cemetery and fully fifty people viewed the body. Dr. Moore had been an invalid for eight years, and for the last year and a half had not left his house.

Thanks muches to Ginny A for this one, too :) kz

Crawfordsville, Ind Feb 3 – Waveland is all excitement over the mysterious burial of Dr. Columbus Moore, a former resident who died recently at 234 Rush Street, Chicago.  The Chicago undertaker had telegraphed to Waveland that upon arrival of the coffin it must be buried immediately and without opening the casket.  This was done by lantern light upon the arrival of the midnight train; but when it was learned that Moore had died of a disease that had baffled the doctors and that he had been an invalid for years, the peculiar burial order aroused suspicion. It is thought the coffin did not contain any body and it is very probable the coffin will be interred and an examination made. - kbz - BINGO found who he is
