Mrs. Bertha E. Moore, age 81, 204 Fifth St., a resident of Covington for 50 years and a former resident of Waynetown, died at 10:45 a. m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Rudisill Nursing Home, corner Second and Liberty Sts. She had been ill for six months and seriously ill one week. She was born Feb. 12, 1880 in the Waynetown area, the daughter of George W. and Elizabeth Quick Petro. She was married in 1898 to Walter Moore, who preceded her in death in April 1946. Mrs. Moore was the owner of grain elevators at Newport and Waynetown. Mrs. Moore was a charter member of the Covington Chapter of American War Mothers and a charter member of the Auxiliary Unit of the Fulton Banta Post 291, American Legion of Covington. She also was a member of the Auxiliary Unit of the Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Liberty Church of Waynetown. She is survived by one son, Leland (Dinty) Moore; one grandson, Harlan E. Moore; two sisters, Mrs. Lulu Henderson of Mulberry and Mrs. Estella Davis of St. Petersburg, Fla., and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and husband. The body is at the Hegg Funeral Home where friends may call. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the funeral home. The Rev. Glenn Ray, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
