William Gusta MONROE, 74, retired farmer died at his home in Browns Valley at 4 o'clock Monday morning. Mr. Monroe had been in poor health for two years. He was born February 26, 1876, in Ohio to John and Mary Monroe. Jan 23, 1901, he was united in marriage with Versia Caldwell of Montgomery County. They resided on the farm in this county most of their married life. They have resided in Browns Valley since retiring from farming. Mr. Monroe was a member of the Baptist Church in Browns Valley. He is survived by his widow and a brother, Zura Monroe of Waveland and several nieces and cousins. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Reeves Funeral Home in New Market. Mr. Augustus Monroe and Miss Versia Caldwell were married at the residence of the bride, north of Waveland, Wednesday evening Jan 23, Rev. WF Gibson officiating. Only the relatives and intimate friends of the contracting parties witnessed the ceremony, which took place promptly at 7 o'clock after which an excellent supper was served. The whole wedding was marked by exquisite simplicity and reserve. Mrs. Monroe has always been considered one of the most beautiful and highly respected young ladies of Freedom neighborhood. Mr. Monroe is held in the highest esteem by all his acquaintances and is a thorough business man. They will be at home near Crawfordsville after February 1. - kbz
