Monroe - Rolla

Rolla E. Monroe, 73, resident of the Mt. zion neighborhood for many years, died at Culver Hospital at 8 o'clock Wednesday night following an illness of one week. Born Nov 20, 1869 he was the son of John H. and Mary A. Buckston (Buxton) Monroe. He was married Nov 1, 1890 to Laura A. Hart at Wingate. He was a member of the Christian Church at Wingate. The survivors include the wife, three children, Emory Monroe, of near Mt. Zion, Ferrel M. Monroe of Ridge Farm, Ill and Mrs. George Banta of Hillsboro; 8 grandchildren; one great grandchild and two brothers, Gusta Monroe of Browns Valley and Zura Monroe of Waveland. Two sisters and the parents preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Mt. Zion United Brethren Church with Re.v Helen Collins in charge. The body will lie in state for one hour at the church. Burial will be in the Masonic cemetery. Friends may call at the home from Thursday evening until the body is taken to the church.
