Darlington - Mrs. Ada Hiatt Moffitt, 64, resident of the Darlington community throughout most of her life, died early Tuesday morning at her home in Darlington. She had been ill 7 months. Mrs. Moffitt was born Sept 10, 1888 at the family's farm home, 2 1/2 miles northeast of Darlington, the daughter of Ira K. and Sarah Miller Hiatt. The family moved to Darlington when she was a child. H er father entered the retail grocery business here and conducted a grocery in Darlington many years. Mrs. Moffitt attended the grade schools and later high school in Darlington being graduated with the class of 190 7. She was married March 26, 1909 to Emery Moffitt. They continued to reside in Darlington many years. A number of years ago Mr. Moffitt became engaged in the automobile business in Chesterton, where he had his home. He died there Feb 14, 1944. Following her husband's death, Mrs. Moffitt returned to Darlington and had lived here since. She was employed at RR Donnelley & Sons company plant in Crawfordsville until she became ill 7 months ago. Mrs. Moffitt held membership in the Donnelley Club the Darlington Congregational Christian Church and the Maywood Temple of Pythian Sisters in Darlington. Survivors include her son, Ned Moffitt of Los Angeles, Calif; two granddaughters, Sharon Elizabeth and Judith Ann Moffitt. Also surviving are 4 sisters: Mrs. Ethel Milner, Mrs. Frank Custer and Mrs. John Lynch all of Darlington and Mrs. Carl Anderson of Ft. Worth, Tx; and one brother, Ralph Hiatt of Frankfort. A sister, Mrs. Leota Edwards died in August 1952. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home in Darlington with burial at Darlington IOOF Cemetery, Rev. Ernest Treber and Richard Chamness will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning Wednesday evening. - transcribed by kbz
