Crawfordsville, Ind -- A former Big Ten basketball official, Justin (Dud) Molony, died yesterday at Crawfordsville following an operation Sunday.  He graduated from Notre Dame in 1911 and played on the Irish basketball team for two years.  After serving as basketball official for 15 years he retired six years ago to practice law in Crawfordsville.  Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Crawfordsville.  - kbz

Crawfordsville, Ind - Justin "Dud" Molony, 57, former Big Ten basketball official, died here Tuesday following an operation Monday.  Molony was graduated from Notre Dame in 1911. He played on the Irish team for two years as a teammate of Robert E. "Pete" Vaughan, Wabash College Athletic director.  After serving as a basketball official for 15 years he retired six years ago to enter the practice of law in Crawfordsville. - kbz

Crawfordsville, Ind Nov 3 - A requiem high mass was sung at St. Bernard's Church here this morning for Justin J. (Dud) Molony, 57, prominent Crawfordsville attorney and former Big Ten basketball official who died Monday at Culver Hospital after a three-day illness. The Rev. William H. Molony of the University of Notre Dame, brother of the deceased was the celebrant and the Rev. JC Keating of St. Bernard's Church gave the funeral sermon. Burial was at Calvary cemetery.  Pallbearers included Ward Lamber, PU basketball coach and Robert E. Vaughan, Wabash College athletic director. - kbz

Crawfordsville, Ind Nov 1 - Justin J. (Dud) Molony, 57, prominent Crawfordsville attorney and former Big Ten basketball official, died of acute pancreitis this afternoon at Culver Hospital. He was stricken Friday and underwent an emergency operation yesterday.  Molony first gained prominence in athletics at Crawfordsville High School where he was a member ofthe championship team of 1906-07.  At Notre Dame he also starred in basketball and was a member of the championship Notre Dame team of 1910-11.  He was a leading basketball official in the Big Ten for 15 years, working as many as 50 games in a single season.  During this period he was an intimate of coaches and officials throughout the nation and his services were sought for championship games in practically every Midwestern state.  

Molony, a veteran of WWI and member of the American Legion was active in affairs at St. Bernard's Catholic Church and one of the best known members of the Montgomery County Bar Association.  He was born here Oct 3, 1886, the son of James S. and Mary Hayes Molony.  Survivors are a brother, the Rev. William H. Molony of the Notre Dame faculty, and two sisters, Miss Elizabeth Molony of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Louis L. Roberts of Fresno, Cal.  Funeral services have beewn set tentatively for Wednesday morning. - kbz
