Mote - Elijah

Darlington, Dec 7 -- Elijah C. MOTE, 67, widely known as a race horse
fancier, died following a stroke of paralysis which he suffered 30 days
ago at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the home of a nephew, Joe
McCluskey, one and a half miles south of here. Mr. Mote was born Aug 24,
1869, near Darlington, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Washington Mote. He was
never married. The deceased was a member of the Darlington Masonic
Lodge. Mr. Mote enjoyed a wide acquaintance among the harness men
throughout the state. Surviving in addition to the nephew, at whose home
he died are 3 sisters: Mrs. A.W. Bowers of California; Miss Elota Mote,
Riverside, Calif; and Mrs. Nettie McCluskey, of near Darlington and a
brother, John Mote of Darlington. Funerals services will be conducted at
1 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Darlington Congregational church in
charge of Rev. AL Miller. The Masonic lodge will give its last rites at
the Darlington IOOF [Independent Order of Odd Fellows] Cemetery, where
burial will be made
