William MOORE was b. Feb 2, 1782; and died Feb 19, 1866. Eliz. SNOOK was b. Jan 20, 1793 and is still living. They were marr. May 20, 1814. They had 9 sons and five daughters, of whom 7 are now living. They moved to IN in the Spring of 1822 from Pa. Incidents of their pioneer life: Mr. Moore located at the big spring on the farm now owned by his son Sam and was the second settler in this vicinity. He was hospitable and made the heart of man a traveler glad by giving him food and shelter. Indians pitched their tents under the hill near his house and used water from the spring that he did. Mrs. Moore tells yet how badly she was frightened when 3 Indians came to her door when her husband was away from home. How she hid her children and kept them hid until the Indians left. She fed them with milk and everything good to eat and then took a club and drove them off. They were something like Willie O'Neall's baby sister. Willie says when she first came to their house she was hungry all the time. Mr. Moore occasionally killed a bear, and once came near being hugged to death by one he was taming. He afterwards took it to Montezuma and sold it to a boatman..... (sorry the rest of the article is gone).
