Nathan Moody, who would have reached his 81st birthday Wednesday of this week, died Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Jewell Chaney, 1009 E. College Street. He had been ill with a heart ailment for the past 3 weeks. Mr. Moody, the son of Thomas and Martha Moody, was born March 29, 1868 at Browns Valley. He had been in the retail coal business in Waveland for 40 years. Mr. Moody was twice married. Following the death of his first wife, Katie Hastady, of Crawfordsville, he was married in 1912 to Catharine Wilhite, also of Crawfordsville. The widow survives together with four sons, 3 daughters, 13 grandchildren and two greats. His daughters, in addition to the daughter at whose home he died, are Mrs. Margaret Moser, of Brazil and Mrs. Russell Powell of Crawfordsville. Sons are Ed Moody of Washington State; Clem Moody of Denver, Colo; Paul Moody of Gary and James T. Moody of Waveland. In addition a sister, Mrs. Lou Gilliland, and a brother Harry Moody survive. Friends may call at the Machledt Funeral Home in Waveland after 4 o'clock Monday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted at the Methodist Church in Waveland at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. CN McBrayer. The body will lie in state one hour at the church before the funeral. Burial in Maple Ridge Cemetery. - transcribed by kbz

Sanford Nathan MOODY, who would have reached his 81st birthday Tuesday of this week, died Sunday evening at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Jewell Chaney of Crawfordsville. Mr. Moody, who had been ill for the past 3 weeks with a heart ailment was the son of Thomas and Martha Moody and was born March 19, 1868, at Browns Valley. Mr. Moody was married Oct 23, 1891 to Catherine Hastaday of Crawfordsville, to which union 7 children were born: Edward; Owen; Clem; Paul; George; Margaret Moser; and Kathryn Powell. Owen died in infancy, Goerge died at the age of 17 and Mrs. Moody passed away January of 1911. Later he was married to Catherine Wilhite, who survives along with his children, also: Waneta Chenoy a step daughter of Cawfordsville and James T. Moody of Waveland; a nephew, who were both reared in the Moody home; a sister, Mrs. Lou Gilliland of Waveland and a brother of indianapolis; 13 grandhcildren and a great grandchild. For a time Mr. Moody resided in Terre Haute where he was employed by a cooperage ccompany, then later owned and operated a large salvage or junk business which extended to Rockville and other places. For some time he also operated a hay business where he bought, baled and shipped hay. For the past number of years he has been in the coal business in the town of Waveland where his home has been. At one time, Mr. Moody was a member of a quartet that was well known for their splendid singing. "Sant," as most friends called him was one of the friendliest persons we have known and always had a smile for everyone His absence will be noticed and deeply regreated by all for a long time to come. "Sant" planned his own funeral and it was carried out according to his wishes. The funeral was conducted at the Methodist Church, Wednesday afternoon with Rev. CN McBrayer, officiaing and the Rev. EF Prevo, pastor of the church, assisting. Interment was made at Maple Ridge Cemetery. - transcribed by kbz
