Ella
M. Montague, wife of Dr. F.T. Montague, died at her home on South Walnut
street, Tuesday, May 29, at 8:20 a.m. She had been ill for several
months, with consumption, bearing her suffering with patience and resignation
of one who submits, willingly, to the decrees of Providence, She was the
seventh child of Benjamin F. Baughn, was born near Washington, Fayette county,
Ohio, and was in her 36th year. In 1857 her father and her younger sister,
Mrs. Edward Sprague, formerly of this city, moved to Atchinson, Kansas, where
she married Anthony Daugherty, who died five years after wards. Mrs.
Daughtery was left with three children, one son, Eddie, and two little
daughters, both of whom died when quite young, the son surviving his
mother. After the death of her husband Mrs, Daughtery returned to Peru,
where she was married to Dr. Montague, May 5, 1877, taking up her residence in
Crawfordsville. She was a woman of tender sympathies and great kindness
of heart, making friends among the old and young, wherever she went. She
was a loving wife, a most affectionate mother, and in all the relations of life
discharged the duties devolving upon her conscientiously and faithfully.
the funeral services were held at the residence on Wednesday afternoon at 3
o'clock, rev. E.B. Thomson, of Center church, officiating. The floral
decorations were unusually beautiful, the most prominent being a basket from
Mrs. T.J. Dolan, a sister residing in Chicago, who could not be present on
account of the serious illness of her mother, a pillow from C. N. and Laura
Williams, sickle and sheaf from friends, cross and anchor from Mrs. J.R.
Bonnell.

The
funeral of Mrs. Dr. Montague took place at 3 o'clock from the residence on
South Walnut street. Rev. Everette B. Thompson preached the funeral and
his remarks were very impressive. A number of people attended this, the
last sad rites, over the remains of a neighbor and friend. The interment
took place at Oak Hill cemetery.
Thanks to Kim H for these three :)
