Rebekah Ann Britts was born in Botetourt County, Virginia, April 9, 1827 and died at the home of her son, David Mitcheltree, southeast of New Ross Feb 28, 1910 at the mature age of 82 years 10 months and 19 days.  At the age of four years she removed with her parents to Indiana and they settled four miles southwest of Ladoga on Raccoon Creek and there were then very few settlers in this part of the country.  In 1848 she was married to George W. Mitcheltree and went to housekeeping in Crawfordsville but a year later they moved to Ladoga.  In 1865 they moved to the farm northwest of New Ross where she spent the remainder of her life.  To their union were born five children, three daughters and two sons, of whom only one son, David L, survives her.  Her husband also preceded her in death a number of years ago. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1856 and always attended church and her hearing got so bad she could not hear the words of the minister and for several years she has been unable to hear anything spoken to her. She leaves two brothers, one son, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, besides a number of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure.  The funeral services were conducted at the house Wednesday forenoon at 10 o’clock and her remains were laid in their last resting place in the cemetery at Ladoga. – kz’
