Sarah Jane Mitchell, 79, a former resident of Wingate, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday of a coronary occlusion in the home of her son, William Mitchell, 308 North St. She was born Feb. 22, 1882, near Byron. Her parents were James and Lucinda Stonebreaker Kerns. On Nov. 7, 1900, she was married to William Wallace Mitchell in Crawfordsville. He preceded her in death in 1947. She was a member of the Center Christian Church and attended Center School north of Elmdale. She was a resident of Wingate for many years and lived iwht her children after the death of her husband. She is survived by four sons, William Moses Mitchell and Orien S. Mitchell of Crawfordsville, Norman C. Mitchell of Lafayette and Harry S. Mitchell of Ashville, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Florence Simms of Logansport and Mrs. Lucinda Goode of Wingate; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Cramer of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Myrtle A. Jolley of Rt. 6; a half-brother, Charles Shaffer; a half-sister, Mrs. Nora Melvin of Rt. 6; 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Carl F. Mitchell in 1947 and Leon Mitchell in 1904. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Wingate Christian Church. Rev. Carl Nesbitt will officiate and the body will ie in state for one hour before the services. Friends may call at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown after 10 a.m. Friday until noon Saturday. Burial will be in Wilhite Cemetery.
