Mrs. Samantha Mitchell died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Livings on Sunday. A week before she fell from dizziness and fractured the thigh bone, sustaining other injuries also from which peritonitis resulted, causing her death. She was buried at Old Union on Monday afternoon after services conducted by Elders Canine and C.G. Airhart. She was born July 3, 1818. She married Alfred Mitchell February 7, 1839. Nine children were born of whom: Mrs. JC Todd; Mrs. WH Thorn; Mrs. FM Conner; Mrs. GS Blake; Mrs. GW Canine and Mrs. George Livings survive. Benjamin, Harriet and Mrs. Thomas Davis are dead. She was a sister of Joel Deere. She joined the Baptist Church at Union, March 1842. She was a daily student of the bible and was always ready to talk on the subject of religion. She was an affectionate mother and always willing to lend a helping hand. - transcribed by kbz

Mrs. Samantha Mitchell died at her home three miles north of town Saturday night. She was 83 years of age and leaves six daughters, all of whom are married. The funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. Interment was at Union Cemetery. -s

Mrs. Samuel (sic - Alfred) Mitchell was born in 1818 and departed this life May 5, 1901. She united with the Union Baptist Church in 1842 and lived a good and worthy member until death. Her husband preceded her three years ago. She leaves six daughters and one brother besides a host of friends to mourn her loss. -s
