Norman Mitchell died Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. He had been ill the past four months and hospitalized the past two weeks. Mr. Mitchell was a native of Wingate, the son of William W. and Sara J. Kern Mitchell. He was reared in the Wingate community. He was married in Crawfordsville in 1938 to the former Dorothy D. Metcalf. He and his wife moved to Lafayette in 1939. For the past 26 years he was a crane operator for Russell David Construction Co. in Lafayette. Mr. Mitchell was a member of the International Operating Engineers Union Local 102, Moose Lodge 1529 and Masonic Lodge 123, F & AM. Survivors in addition to the widow are two sons, J. Cliffton Mitchell and L. Eugene Mitchell, both of Lafayette; a daughter, Ada Dorlene Mitchell, at home; six grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Mitchell of Crawfordsville and Harry F. Mitchell of Ashville, N. C., and two sisters, Mrs. Carlos Goode of Wingate and Mrs. Freeman Simms of Logansport. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Soller-Baker Funeral Home main chapel in Lafayette. Rev. Guy N. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery at Lafayette. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
