Coal City, Ind – Services for the Rev. Lowell Mitchell, 77, Coal City, a retired minister, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, Linton with calling from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. He died Tuesday. Ordained by the American Baptist Church in 1956 he began his ministry in the Coal City area. He served 12 Baptist Churches in Indiana including churches in Freedom, Cannelton, Gosport and Worthington, retiring from active pastorate ministry in 1977. Rev. Mitchell was on the American Baptist Church board of managers and had been camp director at the McCormicks Creek, Jasonville, Indian Creek and Avoca youth camps. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Worthington. Survivors, wife, Hazel Clayton Mitchell; sons, Tim, Ron and Larry Mitchell; daughter Connie Wolfe; 5 grandchildren; two great grandsons.
