John Milligan, a pioneer settler of Brown Township died at his home near Waveland, yesterday morning at 8 o'clock. Mr. Milligan was born in Perry County, PA March 29, 1808. In 1814 his parents removed to a farm near Pittsburg, PA where he lived until he was 19 years of age. He then attended school at different places. In 1828 he came to this county and taught school a few months. He was a clerk for Jonathan Powers for about a year and in 1880 he sold goods on commission for IC Elston Sr for three years, near where the present town of Waveland is situated. In 1884 he purchased the land upon which the town of Waveland now stands and built the first house ever erected in that town. A year later he laid out said town and sold the first lot of Jan 25, 1835. In 1829 he married Miss Amand Elmore, daughter of John Elmore, a sister of CW Elmore of this city. He leaves a widow and 7 chikldren living, one daughter having died sevearl years ago. Mr. Milligan has been a membe rof the Presbyterian Church over 55 years and an elder fo4 50 years. He was the father of Joseph Milligan of this city. Mr. Milligan was industrious and had accumulated a large fortune, but had lost greater portion of it by attempting to aid the Anderson, Lebanon & St. Loius Railway. The funeral will take place on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the services to be conducted by Rev. JM Sammis - NOTE: some of these dates do not jive.
