James R. Milligan, one of Waveland's best known and highly respected citizens, died very suddenly, Monday evening. Funeral services were held in the Prebysterian Church on Wednesday, conducted by Rev. JA McKee. James Robert Milligan was born at Waveland Jan 23, 1844 and has from his birth lived in this community. Being a child of Christian parents and well instructed in the principles of Christianity, he at an early age united with the Presbyterian Church and has ever been a faithful member thereof. In that Church he had been a ruling elder since March 11, 1893. Last Saturday he was reelected for another term of 3 years and on Sunday was reinstalled and assisted in the distribution of the elements of the administration of the Lord's Supper. On Nov 24, 1868, he was married to Miss Fannie M. Irwin who has been a loving and faithful wife for more than 30 years. To this union have been born six sons and one daughter. Four sons, the daughter and the devoted wife are left. Mr. Milligan had been out of health for about two years, and during this time has had a number of smothering spells of a very severe character and very weakening. The immediate cause of death was apoplexy, which took him away in a few minutes after he was stricken by it. In the death of Mr. Milligan the Church has lost a faithful elder, the community an honorable citizen and his family a loving husband and father: but the loss to all these is his eternal gain. Resolutions of sympathy were adopted by the Church session and the officers of the Church acted as pall bearers.
