Edwin Thomas Milligan was born March 19, 1861. He was the second son of the three children of Thomas E. and Martha Milligan. He was born near Waveland and with the exception of a short time in business in Wingate, his interests have been invested in Waveland. His first school days were spent in the little old school house located near the Presbyterian Church. Later he attended school at Ladoga and the Bloomington academy. He was baptised June 1, 1861, and was united with the Presbyterian Church on February 15, 1887. He was united in marriage with Carrie Kerr, Dec. 13, 1893. To this union was born one daughter, Martha Virginia. Following their marriage they lived in the house Mr. Milligan built in the east part of town. In a few years they bought the present home. Here he spent his life in Christian peace, love and happiness. On May 15, 1918 and on September 17, 1923 occurred the calls of Mrs. Milligan and his daughter, Martha Virginia Spencer to the Heavenly Home. He departed this life September 30, at five-thirty a.m., leaving behind one grandson, one son-in-law and two brothers, together with a wide circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. His life was an illustration of Christian parent's early influence. To have Christ as his silent partner was his desire all through life. His life has been an exemplification of strong Christian manhood. His faith never failed him even in his last hours when suffering was intense he reached for the Savior's guiding hand. The nearer the departure from this life, the more closely he clung to that better, more beautiful life that Life Beyond.
