Miller - Samuel - 1890

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal Monday 27 October 1890

Yesterday morning at 9:50 o’clock, died, Samuel Miller, one of our foremost business men and citizens. The news of his death was a shock to the whole community for although he had been unwell since Thursday, he did not take his bed until Friday afternoon. He was troubled with a complication of the bowels. The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon at an hour to be announced later on. The interment will be at Oak Hill.  Mr. Miller was born in Berks County, Penn., in 1826, and came to Crawfordsville in 1856. Upon his arrival he engaged at once in business with his brother, J. S. Miller, and they have done a strong and thriving business ever since as J. S. Miller & Co., erecting the entire block where the business is now located. Mr. Miller was a man of irreproachable character who carried his sterling qualities into his business as well as his private life, and in his death the community loses a modest, thorough gentleman. He has been a consistent member for many years of the Lutheran Church.
