Death closed the long and beautiful life of Mrs. Samuel Gill at 2:30 o’clock Thursday morning. She expired at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Miller, 1101 W. Superior Street following an illness of several days. She was 87 years old. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at the First Presbyterian Church at 10:30 o’clock. The Rev. Hurd Allyn Drake, pastor and Rev. George AP Jewell, pastor of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will have charge. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be removed form the Rich Mortuary to the daughter’s residence late Thursday afternoon. Friends may call there. Born in Waveland Dec 17, 1850 the deceased was Miss Mary Ellen Shellady, daughter of James M. And Elizabeth K. Shelladay. She was the last of that family. The husband, the daughter and a niece, Mrs. Franklin Davidson, Crawfordsville are the only survivors. Mr. and Mrs. Gill were married at Crawfordsville April 18, 1876. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last year. Special note of this occasion was taken by friends and acquaintances of the couple. They resided the first 25 years of their married life on a farm, near Roachdale, Parke (sic) County then moved to Crawfordsville, where they remained until coming to Kokomo about 15 years ago. Mr. Gill, now living at the daughter’s home is 86 years of age. Mrs. Gill had been a life long member of the Presbyterian Church. She was one of the first members of the church at Ladoga, and when the congregation celebrated its 50th anniversary five years ago, Mrs. Gill attended the services and took part in the program. In addition, Mrs. Gill was a charter member of Allen Chapter No 7 of the Order of Eastern Star in Waveland. She was initiated into the order in 1878. During her residence here, she had acquired many friends and was known and respected in a wide local circle. - kbz
