Another bright and beautiful spirit has taken its light from earth. Mrs. Mary A. Miller, wife of M.S. Miller, died at Lincolnville, Wabash County, where she had resided for the last two years, on Wednesday monring, Feb 4 of cancer. She had long been an intense sufferer. Everything that medical skill could do was most affectionately done, but without avail, for death had marked its victim. The deceased was born in Green County, Tennessee, Jan 30, 1815. Her maiden name was Mary A. Garr. She removed with her parents to Ohio, where they resided for a short time, and then to Henry County, this state, her mother dying on the way, leaving her father with a large family of little children. She being the oldest child she was required to fill a mother's place which duty she faithfully performed. They removed from Henry County to Fountain County, then to Montomgery where she had resided for 40 years. She was married to MS Miller Jan 30, 1843. Of this union there were born six children, five of whom are living, three girls and two boys. She was a member of the ME Church for 35 years, having joined under Rev. Bartlett's charge at ALamo. She lived a quiet and consistent member until death. She was a woman of a retired disposition, beloved by all who knew her. She bore her last illness with patience, although an intense sufferer, remarking often that her preparations were all made, and that she was only waiting to be called. She passed away peacefully, with a full assurance of a home in Heaven. Her remains were brought to Crawfordsville. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Her aged companion and children have the profound sympathy of a large circle of friends.
"For sweet is the sleep that Christians sleep
And sweet the strains that angels pour
O why should we an anguish weep
For she's not lost but gone before." -- transcribed by kbz
