Martha J. Miller, wife of James Miller, died at her home in New Richmond, Saturday, Dec. 28, 1895, at 1 o’clock a.m., aged 44 years. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church, Sunday at 11 o’clock by Rev. J. P. Shagley.
Only a few months ago the death angel entered this home and took from it an only daughter. The mother, never strong, bowed under this burden of grief and gradually faded away until finally the change came that must ultimately come to us all. Her work is laid aside, her smiles have passed away and the sound of her voice is forever stilled. A home is broken up, a husband is bereft and two sons are left desolate by the death of mother. The sympathy of friends cannot fill this aching void, but Jesus, who comforted Mary and Martha at the grave of Lazarus, is willing and able to comfort those who will come to him in their hour of affliction. The mortal body of the departed sleeps in that beautiful city of the dead, Oak Hill Cemetery, and the immortal soul rests in the bosom of God who gave it. Ah, truly “after life’s fitful fever she sleeps well.” - s
