Saturday evening at about 4 o’clock Jonas S. Miller died at his home on South Water Street. Mr. Miller had been sick for some time from general prostration and his death was not unexpected. The funeral occurred at his late residence Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. Dr. H. L. Nave, of the First Presbyterian Church. Interment was at Oak Hill.
Jonas Sanderson Miller was born April 27, 1830, in Burks County, Pennsylvania, and came to this city in 1856. He engaged in the carriage manufacturing business with his brother, Samuel, who died in 1890, and by strict honesty and close attention to business built up a trade in vehicles which prospered and grew to great proportions, making its proprietors rich men. The block in which the business has been conducted for many years was formerly a row of saloons and disreputable dives, but when Mr. Miller purchased the land these were all torn down and the handsome brick business block erected, making quite an addition to the city’s commercial center.

Jonas S. Miller was married in this city to Martha A. Scott, who died in May, 1884. To them was born one child, Albert S. Miller, who succeeded his father in business. In 1893 Mr. Miller again married, his second wife being Melvonia Mason, and she, with his son, survives him.

Mr. Miller leaves four brothers and two sisters as follows: Frank S. of Pennsylvania, David S. of Linden, Solomon and Alfred of Chicago, Susannah Reber and Matilda Hains of Burks County, Pennsylvania. Mr. Miller was a member of the Lutheran Church and lived a life in keeping with his faith. In his death this county loses a citizen who did much to further its advancement along lines of commercial activity, and his life was one of busy endeavor and industry worthy of emulation. His circle of friends was a large one and many sincerely mourn the loss of a good friend.
