Mrs. Hadassah Mariah (Gilmore) Miller, an aged resident of Ladoga died at her home on Taylor Street, Ladoga, Saturday morning, May 25, 1929, aged 79 years, 6 months and 7 day. She had been an invalid for many months, and suffered a stroke of paralysis, Wednesday from which she never recovered.  Mrs. Miller was born November 18, 1849, five miles southwest of Greencastle, one of a family of 12 children of Thomas L. and Elizabeth (Hawkins) Gilmore.  On Oct 21, 1869, she was united in marriage to Charles Henry Miller, a son of Rev. and Mrs. John W. Miller. They made their home five miles southeast of Ladoga, where they lived until nearly 20 years ago when they moved to Ladoga.  To this union five children were born: CA Miller of Indianapolis; John G of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; Mrs. JC Barnard and Mrs. Alpha Smith of Ladoga and Mrs. Mary Miller, who with the father passed away five years ago.  During her girlhood days, Mrs. Miller was a member of the Presbyterian Church, but after marriage she united with the Wesley Chapel ME Church, the membership later being transferred to the Ladoga Church.  Mrs. Miller was truly a Christian woman, those nearest to her never heard her speak an unkind word of any person.  As long as her health permitted she was an active church worker and the Miller home was always home to ministers and their families.  For three years she had been a great sufferer from complications brought on by paralysis. On last Wednesday evening she was stricken just as she entered the dining room for the evening meal. She passed peacefully into the Great Beyond, Saturday morning at 2 o’clock. Besides the children mentioned she leaves two half sisters, Mrs. CL Lundy of Burlington, Colorado; Mrs. FP Thomas of Laken, Kansas; one half brother, Edgar Gilmore of Venezia, Arizona; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.  Written in her diary were these words: “I leave this world without a tear, save for the friends I hold so dear, to heal their sorrows Lord descend, and to the friendless prove a friend.”  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in charge of Rev. CH Martini, assisted by Rev. AA Dunlavy of Montmorence, a former pastor of the Ladoga ME Church and Rev. OT Martin of Crawfordsville. B.F. Hargrave sang three solos, Sometime We’ll Understand, “In the Garden and City Four Square, accompanied by Mrs. Paul Tomlinson at the piano.  Pall bearers were Robert Stark; WH Long; Roy Hester; Ed Lough; Thomas Stultz and WB Rodman. Flower bearers were Mrs. Claude Harshbarger; Mrs. Clarence Mitchell; Miss Grace Barnard; Mrs. Edwin Barnard; Mrs. Victor Bullock; and Lena Faye Harshbarger.  Interment was made at the Ladoga cemetery.  Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Rev. and Mrs. OT Martin of Crawfordsville; Mr. and Mrs. George Howard of Rockford, Ill; Mr. and Mrs. EG Hoyt of Centralia, Ill; Rev. and Mrs. AA Dunlavy of Montmorenci; Mrs. David Harshbarger of Roachdale; Mr. and Mrs. George Brewer and son, Robert, Mrs. AM Scott, Mrs. EO Coffman, Mrs. HE Daughterty and son, Carl, Mrs. Rachel Daughterty Mrs. Edwin Alfred, Mr. and Mrs. CA Miller and son Charles, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Bullock and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Beeman of Indianapolis; Mrs. JS Shackleford and Mrs. CE Stephens of Anderson. -- - thanks so very much to Diane Cross for going the extra mile for this one :)
