Mrs. John Miles who has been critically ill for several weeks, died on Saturday morning. Funeral services were held at the Christian Church Monday afternoon in charge of Rev. H. Hugo, burial at Union Cemetery Mary Elizabeth, only daughter of Edward and Melvina English was born at Armysburg, Indiana, March 12, 1855 and passed away at her home in Waveland Saturday morning, Nov 3, 1928, age 73 years, 7 months, 21 days. She has been in health (sic) for some time had suffered a paralytic stroke 8 weeks ago since when her going away has been hourly expected. She was united in marriage to John Miles April 21, 1872. To them was born 12 children, 8 sons and 4 daughters, two sons and two daughters have passed on. She spent most of her life in and near Waveland. At an early age she united with the Baptist Church, while not an active worker in the Church, she was of a bright and cheerful mind casting sunshine into the lives of all she met. Ready at all times to assist the unfortunate she will be sadly missed by all she leaves to mourn her departure the companion with shom she traveled lifes journey more than 56 years, 8 children: Mrs. Lula Lewis of Indiana Harbor, Roy of Plato, Mi; Nelson of Waveland, Lewis of Ft. Montgomery NY; Morris of Bonanza, Colo: Mrs. Anna McGaughey of Venice, Calif; Harry of Gary and Frank of Oakland, Calif; 19 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren, several relatives and hosts of friends. Beside raising so large a family of her own she also raised 4 grandchildren who will ever cherish her memory for her loving kindness to them. She realized that the end was near and told the ones who watched with her during the last hours that she was ready to go, meeting death with a calmness and resignation that would say to the workd, I have done what I could; all is well. Funeral services were held for Mrs. John Miles at the Christian Church on Mon. aft. in charge of Rev. H. Hugo of Oxford. A quartet composed of Dr. and Mrs. H.H. Isaacs and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Denk with Mrs. Fred Rice at the piano sang, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere and He is Always Near." The flowers were carried by Mary Jane, Lois and Katherine Miles, grandchildren and Miss Lavern Marshall. The pall bearers were Claude Smith, Arthur Jarvis, Sam Scott, Avery Fuller, William Moore and Fred Rice. Burial at Union Cemetery.
