Robert W. Middleton 85, veteran of the Civil War died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. JC Schmeltzer, northeast of the city, Friday morning at 5:30 o'clock. Death followed a serious illness of 10 days. The deceased was born at Waynesville, Ohio on Nov 2, 1845, the son of James and Amanda King Middleton. He was unite din marriage to Cynthia b. Kepler in 1866. DUring his life he attended the Baptist Church. Mr. Middleton enlisted in Co B 118th Ohio Infantry on Aug 20, 1862. He was discharge June 25, 1865, after serving in some of the most important engagements in the war. The deceased, who was a brick moulder by trade, came to Montgomery County soon after his marriage, living here continuously since that time. Mrs. Middleton died in 1888. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Emma B. Schmelzer of near this city and Mrs. Sarah V. Hummel, of Los Angeles, Cal; three sons, Morris W. Middleton of Steger, Ill; Joseph H. Middleton of Crawfordsville and Charles A. Middleton of near Darlington; a brother, CE Middleton of Dayton, Ohio and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Lippencotte of Waynesville, Ohio. The funeral services will be held at the Schmeltzer home, northeast of here, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will take place in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. - kz
